the biggest race of my life

The dream was finally realized and I was to be one of the 100 best professionals in the world to start the super bowl of triathlon the Ironman Hawaii World Champs. The week was very exciting as I got to train with my friend and defending champ Chris Mccormack and absorbed as much knowledge as I could from the best athlete of our generation. I also did a few NBC interviews for the very video I watched year in and year out for my entire life, I cannot express how unbelievable it was to be apart of the video that inspired me over so many years. Just this itself was a dream come true! In the pre race meeting it was very intimidating considering every champion was there and ready for a war. Even some of the greats me and my dad watched many years ago are still racing at the highest level, before I even started racing triathlon. Legends like Luc Van Liedre and Thomas Helliregal were there, these are guys I watched win while I was in high school when I was a typical Hawaii kid surfing all day without a care in the world. Now I was toeing the line as a fellow professional bumping shoulders and all that good stuff against these greats. It gives me chills just to thinking about it. Race morning finally came and transition was buzzing, I have never been in a race with so many professional athletes everywhere you looked there was an athlete I admired. This is only my third ironman so I am still adjusting to taking so many calories while out there on the bike, its almost comical how we all have to carry so many gels bars and other calories out there.
                                                                                       read moreRace%20Reports/8E28BFF9-D362-4199-8D64-1B53FEEFE89D.htmlshapeimage_27_link_0

The biggest race of my life, I have watched this race since I was 6 months old cheering for my dad a great hippy adventure guy who raced the Ironman in 1980 on Oahu. I am born and raised in Hawaii so of course every year in October I either watched the Ironman on TV or we puddle jumped over to Kona for a live viewing. My father has always been a big fan of the pro athletes who battled at the front of the race, from Dave and Marc to Van Liedre, Reid and Deboom over the years I watched my dad admire these great athletes. Naturally I also admired what my dad admired, but it wasn’t till after college that I decided to chase the dream that I spectator for so many years. It seamed unrealistic growing up; they all looked like super heroes out of a comic book, something I could never become.

3 years of Dreaming
                15th Overall
                            3rd American
                                        2nd Rookie

But at the age of 24 I got my very first tri bike and started training like a mother F@#$er. If I was going to do this I was all in, no what if’s and no maybes. I realized after working a full time job for only a few weeks, that we are given one chance and we are able to decide our own fate. We can chase a dream or we can let life pass us by and just go through the motions. I wanted to do this for my dad, for myself, and to prove that anything is possible with hard work and a dream.
